贝瑞德出生于德国布伦瑞克一个工薪家庭。进入大众工作的32年间，他从采购专员一步步成长为大众汽车品牌首席执行官。2022年8月起，贝瑞德担任大众汽车集团（中国）董事长兼首席执行官，带领这家在中国深耕40余年的汽车企业，在电动化、智能化浪潮中加速转型。为了更好理解中国，他坚持每天早晨6时起床学习中文，甚至在去机场途中和健身房里都会大声朗读中文材料。他还定期与30岁左右的中国员工交流，以保持对市场变化的敏锐感知。“我们将坚定不移地深耕中国市场，持续投资强化本土研发实力。”他说。
